Conduct a Math Scavenger Hunt:
Students can discover the ways in which we use math in our everyday lives with this activity.
Kindergarteners can:
(For this age group I would suggest using a story book or find these items around the house.)
- find a square, rectangle, triangle or circle
- find todays date
- find a number greater or less than a given number (use numbers 1 thru 10)
- find something longer than their pointer finger
- find something shorter than their arm
- find a pattern (shapes or colors)
- find something heavier than an apple
- find something heavier than their body
- find a given color
- find a given number of something (3 socks , 5 pennies, etc.)
First Graders can:

~find a cube, sphere, cylinder, or cone
~find today's date
~find a number greater than or less than a given number
(use numbers 1 through 100)
~find something longer than their foot
~find something shorter than their finger
~find something heavier than an apple

~find a written time
~find a number in written form
~find a pattern in shapes or numbers
Second Graders can:
(For this age group I would suggest using a story book, a magazine, newspaper or items around the house.)
~find a shape with a given number of straight sides, and corners
(For example find a shape with 3 corners...Triangle)
~find a price with dollars and cents
~find a number greater than or less than a given number
(use numbers 1 through 500)
~find something longer that 3 inches
~find something shorter than 1 foot
~find coins worth a given amount (ex. find 35 cents)
~find a number written in word form
~find a printed time
~find a number pattern
~find a bar graph
~find a line graph
